Larry Burk

​Larry holds a BA in Economics from Southern Illinois University and is a member of the school's Business School Hall of Fame. He has completed leadership training at Wharton. He has an extensive background in risk management, and has served as CEO of Alexander & Alexander, Inc., a large financial services firm specializing in risk management, consulting and insurance services. After retiring from Alexander& Alexander in 1997, Larry led a small software development company and served as it's CEO. Through his long career he developed business skills and held leadership positions in sales, marketing, risk management, and business operations. In looking back on his business career he concludes that he has learned what it takes to successfully run a company, regardless of size, in the 21st century global environment.

Tim Clemm

​Tim Clemm spent most of his career in foodservice marketing and product development for food and food equipment manufacturers servicing restaurants, hotels, schools, prisons, convenience stores, vending and other locations serving food away from home. These companies included: Campbell Soup Company, Hormel Foods/Diamond Crystal Brands, McLane Company and Frymaster. Early in his career Tim spent time on the consumer side of marketing as well in distribution and logistics. Tim’s experience includes an understanding of business P & L’s,accounting, costing and the relationship between the foodservice distributor and operator as well as manufacturer. Tim has had training in web site development, web site optimization and ecommerce strategies including the use of Google ad clicks. For the past five years Tim has owned and managed his own small business wearing many hats

Doug Fuss

​Doug Fuss has been a member of Savannah SCORE since 2000. He has advised numerous clients and small businesses in the greater Savannah area including information technology companies, online retailers, and start-up enterprises. Marketing and sales strategy development is one of his specialties.

​Following his formal education, Mr. Fuss embarked on a 33 year career in sales, marketing and market development with IBM. During this period he held numerous positions in direct sales and headquarters marketing including Branch Manager, Industry Manager, Director of Industry Software Solution Development, and European Business Partner Manager-Software.

​In 1997, Mr. Fuss retired following six years in Paris and London and moved, with his wife Susan, to Savannah. In addition to his counseling with SCORE, he has been engaged in USAID funded software projects in Jordan, Macedonia, Lebanon, and Uzbekistan.

​Mr. Fuss graduated from Cornell University with an advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering.

 Robert T. Hamilton III

 Bob received his BS in chemistry and mathematics from Hobart College; his MS in chemical engineering from the University of Rochester and his MS in business from MIT as a Sloan Fellow. His career began with Eastman  Kodak focusing on product design and manufacturing, moving to Vice President and General Manager of their clinical products division. He was later moved to Kodak U.K. as their assistant managing director. Following        Bob's career with Kodak he held a variety of consulting and executive positions in the health sciences industry. He brings ty SCORE a wealth of experience in growth ventures, business design and structure of  cost effective  operations.

​Alex Harwood

​Alex graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in engineering, and served the next 6 years in the U.S.Air Force. During this time he completed his Masters degree at Stanford University and doctoral work at UCLA John Anderson Graduate School of Management. He subsequently joined Hughes Aircraft Company initially as an engineering manager and later as a marketing manager.Continued engineering,marketing and proposal preparation consulting at Raytheon, Bendix and ITT eventually led to a systems engineering and software manager position at E-Systems. In this capacity he identified and developed opportunities to design and create secure versions of commercial software for classified activities in the USAF and CIA. For ten years prior to his retirement, Alex was the account executive and program executive to U.S Intelligence Community programs at Texas Instruments and IBM. He brings to SCORE a wealth of experience in the development and logistical support of both small and larger complex programs. Business planning, financial planning and program design are among his strengths

William A. Izzard

​U.S. Army colonel,retired. BS In chemistry, MS in mass communications, MS in military strategy,Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). Army career in Armor and Research and Development. Two combat tours in Vietnam. Post retirement as a special agent with Northwestern Mutual Life specializing in financial planning, and life,disability, business and long term care insurance planning. Past president of the Savannah, Ga. and Cleveland, Tn. chapters of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. Skilled in public speaking, marketing, business and personal insurance planning, and business succession planning. Bill has been a certified SCORE mentor since early 2013, On October 1, 2015, he was installed as President of the Savannah chapter of SCORE. He heads up a team of five certified mentors who teach a soldier transition program known as Boots to Business.

Gary Johnson

​Gary Johnson has extensive experience in business and has been on the leading edge in the development of computer technology. He has been a manager with top consulting firms as well as an executive in corporations with responsibilities in operations, marketing and information systems. He has held positions such as Vice President of Marketing, Vice President of Operations.

​His industry experience includes distribution and retail as well as manufacturing and computer related industries..He started his own company, Strategic Systems, in 1988 in Chicago which pioneered the use of multi media systems for training. The company was a leader in Computer Based Training in the retail industry and was used by major companies both in the US and internationally. Asymetrix, a Paul Allen Company, bought the company in 1998. It was merged into Asymetrix, which was taken public the following year. Mr. Johnson moved to Savannah in 1998.

​He knows what it means, “make payroll” and what it takes to start and run a small business. He joined SCORE to help people with good business ideas that need someone with experience to guide them through the process of starting and running a new business.

​He has degrees in Engineering and an MBA in Marketing from Michigan State University

Shetia Butler-Lamar

​Shetia, a native of Savannah, holds a BBA in Business Administration (Computer Information Systems), an MBA, both from Savannah State University and is a doctoral candidate at the University of Liverpool. She is currently employed by Savannah State as a Lecturer in Computer Information Systems and Business in the College of Business Administration. Shetia has over 10 years experience in IT Management, primarily with large hotels, as the Manager of Information Technology. She brings to SCORE extensive knowledge of technical support, project management and IT training. Apart from her professional credentials, she is a member of and advisor to the International Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma and the International Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi.

Hank McCaffrey

​Hank graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S.Degree in Accounting. He spent a career in banking, ultimately rising to his banks' position of Executive Vice President, Chief Credit Officer. Now retired, he brings to SCORE his extensive experience in business financing. As a SCORE mentor his primary focus is on new entrepreneurs who seek guidance on how to transfer business ideas into real businesses. Once the nature of the business is defined, he assists in the development of a business plan, with emphasis on cash flow projections and the techniques which go into their development.

Robert Meng ​ ​

​Bob Meng moved to the next phase in life in 2008 and relocated to Savannah after over 40 years in business. Following graduation from Ohio Northern University with a degree in engineering, Bob joined Caterpillar, Inc. During his career he held a variety of assignments in sales/marketing; product development; strategy and planning and plant operations management. Bob lived and worked internationally including Europe, Africa/M.E. and Asia. A big part of Bob's career included consulting engagements with technology partners, suppliers, distributors and customers. In his last assignment at Caterpillar, Bob was president of a local business unit that more than doubled highly profitable sales in just five years.

​Bob has been a SCORE counselor since 2009. He has helped a wide variety of clients including start-ups, existing business entities and non-profit organizations. Bob is very passionate about helping clients succeed whether they are just starting or are already in business trying to increase sales, find new marketing techniques, increase market share, lower costs, improve processes/quality or develop people.

​Bob consults with the Gerson Lehrman Group with global clients. He serves on the Savannah Board for Georgia Junior Achievement and is a class volunteer teacher. Bob is also on the Dean's Advisory Board for Savannah State's College of Business Administration and serves on The Landings Company board, a local real estate and rental management company.

Bruce Montgomery

​Bruce grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia with a BBA in accounting. He later founded a company which manufactured and sold custom furniture, selling the company in 1979. He was hired by Uniflex, a residential apartment and condo developer, rising to a Senior VP position. Bruce and the company CFO bought and ran the company until 1996, when Bruce sold his share. In a career change, he was hired by an investment company and certified as a Registered Financial Advisor, retiring in 2012. During his career he was Chairman of the Housing Authority in Savannah. In 2002-3 he served as the District Governor of Rotary International in Savannah. He remains a principal in a used car business he and his son-in-law formed in Cleveland, Tn. He brings to SCORE skills in business buy-sell strategies, marketing, advertising, and financial operations in small business management.

Bill O'Brien

​Bill graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a BS degree in engineering. His early career centered on high tech manufacturing where he became the purchasing director for a solar cell equipment manufacturer. His interests later led to owning his own business in the construction and renovation industry. Success in this area evolved into real estate development and management in the hospitality services industry. He is currently a principal of Calypso Rentals, LLC and owner of the Thunderbird Inn, Savannah. A local resident since 1999, Bill brings to SCORE mentoring skills in accounting, business development, real estate acquisition, finance, construction and sales techniques, and contract negotiations.

Michael Siegel

​Mike graduated from Moravian College with a BS degree in Biology and later from Temple University with an MA in Developmental Biology. He went on to spend over 35 years in senior IT management positions in the healthcare industry, culminating as CIO with a number of large home healthcare companies. His experience centers primarily on growing businesses, process improvement, leadership, project planning, management and sales. He belongs to the Health Information Management Systems Society and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.

Al Torpie

​Allen holds double master’s degrees in organizational behavior from Cornell University and in management from MIT. His 32 year business career was spent in the electrical wire and cable industry, holding senior management positions in marketing, administration, strategic planning and general management. During his 17 years with SCORE, he has held the leadership positions of chapter president and Georgia District Director. As a certified SCORE mentor Allen advises entrepreneurs in business plan preparation, marketing, short and long range planning, organizational development, budgeting and cash flow management.

 

 Chris Williams

Chris graduated with a BA in Economics, completed his CPA certification, and subsequently earned his MBA from Rutgers University. His professional career with PWC centered on auditing, accounting, leasing, banking, and financial planning for large organizations, some with billions in assets and revenue. After he left corporate life, he consulted with several startup and early stage business enterprises, helping them design and emplace their business plans. In several cases, his assistance enabled companies to raise capital through angel investors and venture capitalists. He brings to SCORE a wealth of financial skills crucial to small business owners.

 

Bob Wimberley

​Bobby grew up in northwest Louisiana,and after high school, served a time in the U.S.Navy as a Medical Corpsman. He went on to earn a BS in Math Education, a Masters in Secondary School Administration, an MBA , and certifications as a CPA and CMA (Certified Management Accountant). In his early career he taught junior high and high school mathematics, rising to subsequently become the Assistant Principal. This was followed by a 26 year career in community banking, where he served in all functional areas, finally retiring as the bank's CEO. However, he continued to teach professional development banking classes to banking professionals, and college algebra, accounting and economics classes at a junior college and to National Guard members for Upper Iowa University. Retiring later from eight years as owner of an accounting and tax practice, he relocated to Savannah where he now offers SCORE’s clients mentoring in financial services and accounting.

Amanda Wynn

​Amanda is a graduate MBA student at Georgia Southern University and a certified weather forecaster in the U.S.Air Force Reserves. She is also employed as a small business advisor in the Business Innovation Group, Veteran's Business Outreach Center (VBOC) in Statesboro, Georgia. VBOC provides counseling and guidance to veterans interested in small business ownership and development. She is also employed by the Savannah International Airport as a weather observer. She brings to SCORE the ability and desire to mentor new entrepreneurs in the planning, structure and operation of a new small business, with focus on the keystone element, the business plan.

Noah Yaughn

​Noah Yaughn is the owner Arc Media Group, a Savannah based web services company. Noah has been involved in web development for over a decade. He is also a frequent speaker on the benefits of social media. Noah provides assistance to SCORE clients in Internet marketing, website design and productivity, social media (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), and search engine optimization (getting ranked on Google and other search engines).

 

Marjorie Young

​President of Carriage Trade Public Relations, a Savannah based PR firm. Named Small Business Advocate of the Year for 2004 by the Savannah Chamber of Commerce.Experienced in Public Relations, Marketing, Home Based Businesses, TV Productions, and Press Releases. Frequent speaker for the University of George, Savannah Small Business Office on Internet operations and marketing.

 

 

Ken Zapp

​Ken Zapp taught MBA Finance for 40 years before retiring to Savannah. His consulting work included valuation of business, cash flow analysis and management, business plan preparation, economic strategy and mergers and acquisitions. He helped sell two privately owned firms to NYSE corporations. He currently is Trustee for two trusts and teaches part-time for the College of Business, Savannah State University.

Cathleen Thomas

​Cathy has been a SCORE mentor since 2008 serving the Hinesville community. She retired from the federal government after 38 years of service, primarily with the Contracting Office at Fort Stewart where she served as a Contract Specialist, Contracting Officer, Cost/Price Analyst, and Small Business Specialist. Her strengths center on providing guidance to small businesses interested in doing business with the government, guiding them on the procedures associated with government contracting. She is very keen on ensuring that entrepreneurs have a current, functional business plan in place.

Jay Martin

​Jay started his publishing career in Nashville Tennessee with Bell South Advertising and Publishing Co. After several years he transferred to Georgia. He was involved with sales, marketing and training. He developed sales and management training programs as well as conducted self improvement seminars for all levels of management. He was inducted into The Presidents Club which was the highest honor available In 1987 Jay took early retirement and moved to St. Simons Island where he founded The Island Directory Company, publishers of independent telephone directories. He is still active, along with his children in that endeavor…. He expanded the business into Florida and has since sold that division Jay has been married to Teddie, his wife of fifty four years. They have three children and seven grandchildren….. He is past president of The Optimist Club of St Simons Island, a founding member of Ft. Frederica Presbyterian Church and is currently active in other local and regional groups… His hobbies are his grand children, model trains and travel.

Bernie Villemaire

​Native of Vermont, and a graduate of the University of Vermont in Burlington. Spent five (5) years as a National Bank Examiner for the Comptroller of the Currency (Treasury Department) and thirty seven (37) years for the Vermont Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Specialized in analyzing loan applications and working with participating financial institutions to provide financing to new and expanding small businesses. Retired in 2011 and moved to Brunswick in 2013. Looking forward to providing assistance to the small business community in and around the a Golden Isles.

Al Suto

​Alexander Suto has supreme experience in business and legal matters. He began his practice in Atlanta, Georgia in after he graduated from Emory School of Law. The field of law he became involved with is Commercial Real Estate and Business. He dealt with diverse matters that included the structuring and formation of various business entities, limited liability companies and joint ventures’. He was in partnerships that managed the acquisition and dispositions of companies and their tangible assets. He has been very involved in asset based financing, retail leasing, loan workouts, dispute resolution and foreclosures. He was president of a private investment company that would acquire, renovate and sell apartment rentals and complexes.
